The Four Questions You Should Ask Before Hiring Any Roofer
Roofing is a serious business. In our many years of experience, we’ve learned about what to do and what not to do. Similarly, we’ve come up with 4 questions that every homeowner should ask when considering which roofing company to hire:
That is a question we see some clients not asking, and it’s really important to make sure that there is coverage in place before you sign anything or authorize any work. We suggest talking about insurance right away. Insurance should come with at least the basics, including worker’s compensation and liability.
Liability will protect the worker from harm. The worker’s compensation will protect the homeowner. You might not even realize that you could be at fault for an accident that occurs while you’re having work done on your roof, but if you aren’t working with a professional roofing company, you could find that out the hard way. Clients need to be protected in case something were to happen. Hiring someone that does not have worker’s comp might just mean that the client is on the hook for medical issues.
We’ve even heard of unscrupulous roofers who fake injuries just to get more money from the client later. So ask about those two types of insurance, specifically.
2. What About Subcontractors?
The company might have subcontractors look at the property. They might even do some work on it. We suggest that you ask any subcontractor coming onto the property the same questions.
We have seen some pretty dubious subcontractors try to take advantage of naive clients.
3. Roofing License?
There is a difference between being qualified to do roofing work and actually being a certified roofer. Check with the company before proceeding to make sure that it is certified to be a roofing contractor in your state. Be sure you find out all the company’s qualifications and read online reviews.
4. Do You Have References?
We suggest you ask your potential roofer about references sooner rather than later. In our experience, you never hire someone that comes without references or an unwillingness to show their references to you.
At Infinity Energy, we’re ready to provide the right answers to all of these questions and any others you might come up with.
